INTERVIEW: Male Model Dickson Ramirez Brings Dominican Style to European Runways


With his attention-getting hairstyle and muscular physique, it's no surprise that male model Dickson Ramírez has attracted plenty of attention on the runways of Madrid and London, the two cities where he is based.

In this EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, Dickson — who was born in the Dominican Republic — shares his experience as a model, as well as some great shots from his portfolio.

How did you start modeling?
I began in the world of fashion and television in Madrid when I was 20 years old; I participated in a television series called Cámara Café, and later I participated in an event organized by the Krea modeling agency. Later, I moved to London and there I continued working in the modeling industry. 


You're from the Dominican Republic originally. How did you end up in Europe?
I moved to Madrid when I was 12 years old with my siblings and mother, since she had already been living in Madrid for a long time. Since then, I've been living between Madrid and London. It's worked very well for me in Spain, since I've been able to get a good education and a better standard of living. 


How is the European modeling scene different from the Caribbean?
I haven't yet had the pleasure of being able to model in the Caribbean, but it's something I'd really like to do, to be able to model in the land where I was born. I think that I'll be able to do that soon, because I'm getting ready to spend a season in the Dominican Republic.


What are your proudest or most exciting moments so far?
Every time you do a fashion show, it's very exciting, since it's something that you like to do and it's a very satisfying experience. But without a doubt one of my most exciting experiences was participating in a runway show organized by Pants to Poverty, an organization that raises funds to help poor people. The show was very exciting.




You have a really cool, unique look. How would you describe it?
I would say that my style is a mix of classic, conservative and also modern and crazy. I like classic styles, and I can also be a modern and daring model. I love doing runway shows and I also enjoy photography and styling. 




How do you stay in shape?
To stay in shape, I like to go to the gym and when I can I also do sports like swimming, running, tennis and bicycling. I also try to eat healthy, but I don't force myself into a diet, although I think that healthy eating is important.


What's the best way for us to follow your work?
For now, I only share my work on Facebook, and soon on my official Facebook page, which will have the same name. Thanks very much for the interview; I've enjoyed sharing my experiences in life and as a model.

During my recent visit to the modelJOCK Suite in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I did a great photo and video shoot with two hot new male models that work with B Star Model Agency. Here, I present the first set of photos and VIDEO of Carlos Zequeira, a muscular, charismatic male model with great presence and a winning smile.

INTERVIEW: Male Model Jay Jam Flexes Muscle and Talent in Front of the Camera

It's no surprise that Jay Jam's muscular form and sleek sensuality has worked well as a go-go dancer. In this EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, this multi-talented male shares his workout secrets and also some of his best photos, including artistic nude, dance and other amazing shots.

At what age did you start your fitness/workout program, and why did you start?
I started my workout program when I was 18 because I was on the ectomorph body type.  Another reason was that my dad and mom have hypertension, or high blood pressure, so eventually I was diagnosed with it. So to keep a healthier lifestyle I opted to start my workout program then.


What do you feel is your best physical attribute? 
Hmmm … my best physical attribute would be my abdominal and my gluteus muscles.


Any body parts you focus on the most in terms of improvement? 
That would be my chest as a classic ectomorph I was flat chested, and its hard for me to get a 40"+ size like some other guys.

What is your workout/exercise routine like? 
My workout routine as of to date is two days on, one day off. I have a four-day split in which one day for chest and biceps, another day for back and triceps, another for shoulders and forearms and lastly for legs and lower back.  My abdominal muscle almost everyday.  Cardio I try to do every other work out.
My exercise would include dumbbells, barbells, machines and body weight exercises like push ups, dips and chin ups. I vary it from time to time as to constantly shock my muscles ... I believe variety is the key.

How about your diet — what do you eat and what do you avoid? 
I almost eat everything except for lamb, duck and really "exotic" food for my taste. I try to eat healthy meaning no junk food, no food high in sodium, fat and sugar. I do try to avoid if I have to prepare for a photo shoot or an event carbohydrates. I eat everything in moderation and again in variety.


How and when did you start modeling? 
I started modeling during college when a friend of mine who had a fashion show wanted me to do runway show for him.

What has been your proudest or most exciting moment so far in terms of modeling?
I would say being featured in your blog is one of the most exciting moment in my modeling career. Plus, having the opportunity to work with great photographers locally like Peter Taylor, Michel Chiccoine, Mike Carter and especially Harry Leonard.  Other photographers from the USA  like Desi Arnez, Steven Underhill, AJ Bates and Christopher Oakley. Lastly to John Battala from the Philippines, who started my "making love" to the camera such an artistic expression for me nowadays.

Besides working out, do you play any sports? 
Well not really. but I do yoga, swimming and go-go dancing. I go-go dance every now and then at local events here in Vancouver and sometimes in San Francisco, California.

What other kind of work do you do?
Yes, I work full time with a coffee company and I also do delivery work part time.

What are your long-term professional goals, both as a model and aside from that? 
As a model I would like to be able to land into one major project that would put me [out] in the globe and be proud that and say that's me. Aside from that I'm in the process of getting certified as a personal trainer in which I want to influence other people in living a healthier lifestyle.

The Caribbean island of Puerto Rico is filled with talented, handsome male models. I had the good fortune to do a shoot with two of the best during my most recent visit, and am happy to present the first one here. Measuring at 6'2", San Juan-based Merlin Quezada is a tall, muscular and impressive male model.

INTERVIEW: Male Model Eh Moo La Shares his Impressive Portfolio


Male model Eh Moo La, who is based in the Chicago area, has an impressive portfolio of professional work with a variety of styles, thanks to his collaboration with several great photographers. In this EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, this talented, athletic male model shares his thoughts about modeling and staying in shape.

At what age did you start your fitness/workout program, and why did you start?
I started when I was about 23 years old because I wanted to go into modeling and to have a healthy looking body. When I was younger people told me I was not good looking, and that pushed me to work harder.


What do you feel is your best physical attribute? Any body parts you focus on the most in terms of improvement?
I’m happy with most of my body since I’m already pretty lean. I usually average about 7% body fat or less. When I’m at the gym, I try to work out every body part. But people tell me that my shoulders are probably the strongest. Guys at they gym always come over and compliment me on my shoulders or upper body and ask what I do to get so lean. I wouldn’t mind getting my legs bigger and maybe my biceps. But I don’t want to get too bulky; I just want to be fit and well defined.

What is your workout/exercise routine like?
I work out at the gym about four to five days a week, one to two hours each. Once I’m at the gym, I try to hit almost every body part and take no more than one-minute breaks in between. That’s really gotten me shredded and lean. Plus I’m not there to chat, so anything longer than a two-minute break gets me bored and I don’t feel like I’m productive. On the days I don’t have energy, I’ll sometimes start my workout by running for 10 to 20 minutes and that warms up my body; then I’ll lift for another hour or more. Lately I’ve been trying to bulk up mass, so I’ve started focusing on one or two body parts. On those days I try to hit hard the one or two muscle groups, such as tries or chest, with the maximum weight almost from the beginning of the workout. I start and stay heavy instead of gradually working up the weight because if I do it for too long, the muscle tires out and I can’t get to that heavier weight.


How about your diet — what do you eat and what do you avoid?
I have pretty high metabolism, so I don’t really have to avoid fatty foods or foods with carbs. But I’m Asian and it’s in my nature to eat healthier, leaner foods. Usually, you’ll see me eating many small meals throughout the day. I love fresh fruits and vegetables. But after a long work at the gym, don’t be surprised to see me in line for Chipotle. I love those burritos and they seem to fill me up. I try to avoid processed or packaged foods, in part because I don’t like the taste. Fresh is always my preference.


How and when did you start modeling?
I started modeling a little over two years ago, mostly part time. I even went to Los Angeles for some time to work for a studio, but the producer was not honest and wanted me to get into things I didn’t, so I came back to Illinois and took a short break. Late last year I started collaborating with photographers again and it’s been a really awesome experience to work with all the great photographers and to be getting all the compliments. 


What has been your most exciting moment so far?
The proudest moment was probably when I did a photo shoot with a photographer from Chicago last winter. He was publishing a calendar and a book and did a behind-the-scenes YouTube video of my shoot, which I wasn’t even aware of at the time. But that video started getting huge hit counts and almost became his top viewed work. That gave me more confidence to keep on trying and not to give up.


Besides working out, do you play any sports?
I love tennis. I’m not very good at it, but I can play and it’s a really exciting sport for me. I also enjoy swimming, soccer and running.


Besides modeling, do you do other kinds of work? What are your long-term goals?
Currently I work for an electronics company as a quality assurance specialist. Modeling right now is a part-time job, although I really want to make it full time work. My goal is to become a professional model or actor. That’s really my ultimate dream. But if that doesn’t work out, I would be happy as a personal trainer.

Male Model Criminals: A Rogue's Gallery

Last week, two male models were caught smoking marijuana behind a tent during Fashion Week in New York City. But these two rogues are far from the only male models to run against the law. Here are a few of the most recent male models to make headlines for the wrong reasons.


Former teen male underwear model Joshua Walter, who signed with Hugo Boss and had an affair with a 38-year-old female teacher when he was 17, was arrested in 2009 for a crime spree that included robbing 15 gas stations. 


Earlier this year, male model Renato Seabra was charged with murder after his confession in the castration slaying of his companion Carlos Castro in New York. 


Around of the time of last year's Fashion Week in New York City, Prada male model Nick Snider faced criminal charges after allegedly offering sexual favors to Arkansas cops in return for his release following an arrest for public drunkenness. 


In the United Kingdom, a boy of 17 who claimed to have turned his back on a life of crime to pursue a career as a top fashion model was arrested in 2010 following a shooting. Korrel Kennedy was one of three people held after a 20-year-old woman suffered a small arm injury after being shot with what is thought to be an air rifle, sources said. 


In 2009, federal investigators said that former male model Edis Kayalar was allegedly blackmailing model Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber by threatening to release a photo taken by their nanny. 



In July 2011, model Stephanie Seymour called the police after a row with her own son, 18-year-old Peter Brand, Jr.


He once sold cosmetics at Saks Fifth AVenue and, more recently, had dreams of becoming a male fashion model. But 26-year-old Ahmed Ferhani was this year charged with planning to blow up synagogues and the Empire State Building.
